Jasper County Deputy TJ Decker will be the new school resource officer — along with his trusty sidekick Delta — at Lynnville-Sully Community School District.
By the 2025-2026 school year, Decker and Delta will engage with students, provide safety education and assist in crisis situations as needed. The school resource officer initiative is part of the sheriff’s office’s ongoing commitment to enhancing school safety and fostering positive relationships with students.
In a press release, Sheriff Brad Shutts said the collaboration between the sheriff’s office and school district reflects a shared commitment to proactive school safety and student well-being. In addition to building student connections, Decker and Delta will maintain a secure learning environment.
Decker is a dedicated member of the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, and he brings with him extensive experience in community policing and youth engagement. Paired with Delta, a highly trained crisis response therapy dog, the duo can provide a comforting and supportive presence in the school for all.
As a specially trained therapy dog, Delta is equipped to assist students experiencing stress, anxiety or trauma. Shutts said her presence in the school setting will provide emotional support and contribute to a more positive and inclusive environment.
