Eastyn Case, 3, recently completed the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program at the Newton Public Library. Eastyn received a Dr. Seuss bag full of items to help her get ready for kindergarten. Eastyn said her favorite book of the 1,000 that she listened to was, “Little Blue Truck” by Alice Schertle.
Eastyn will have a great jump start for school, as studies show that being read to daily at home is a key predictor of future success in school. Plus, reading together every day is a great way to bond with your child. The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program may sound daunting, but it’s manageable — just one book a day for three years will get you to the 1,000-book mark!
This ongoing program at the Newton Public Library is open for registration as soon as your child is born. When you register, you’ll receive a canvas 1,000 Books Bag, perfect for carrying library books, and a board book to keep. Stop by the library to register, or visit https://bit.ly/1000booksNPL
