Several talented students from Berg, Emerson Hough, Thomas Jefferson and Woodrow Wilson are making their mark on the Iowa art scene, with multiple students selected for two major events in celebration of Youth Art Month 2025.
Henry Flaherty, a 7th grader, is one of the standout artists chosen for the Governor’s Art Show in the Iowa Capitol Building. His artwork will be displayed throughout March, alongside pieces from talented young artists across the state. A Capitol tour and awards ceremony, hosted by the governor’s office, will honor these remarkable students and their contributions to the arts.
In addition to Henry’s achievement, 12 other Newton CSD students have been selected for the Youth Art Month Show at the Jordan Creek Mall in West Des Moines. Their work will be on display for the entire month of March, with an official reception and ceremony set for Saturday, March 29.
The selected students include Jasmine Anderson (eighth), Diamond (Andrianna) Kilgore (seventh), Emily Webster (seventh), Skyler Savage (seventh), Nora Wickman (eighth), Landen Harger (first), Dean Best (K), Crosby Clark (K), Alleighlee Pruitt (second), Isabella (Bella) Peterson (K), Lyric Ross (first) and Nelson Garcia Rodriquez (fourth).
These students’ creative pieces will be showcased at Jordan Creek Mall in West Des Moines for the month of March where families and visitors can appreciate their talent. The event provides a valuable opportunity for young artists to gain exposure and recognition for their hard work.
The community is invited to join in the celebrations and support these emerging artists as they receive the recognition they deserve. Both events promise to be memorable showcases of the incredible creativity found in Iowa’s youth.
The art teachers who submitted work are Lauren Roush (Berg), Amber Martensen (Emerson Hough and Woodrow Wilson) and Paige Stewart (Thomas Jefferson and Woodrow Wilson).
