Tiny Art Show
Display your artistic talents and support the library at our Tiny Art Show & Fundraiser Silent Auction! Pick up a 4″x4″ canvas at the library with a $1 deposit, and create a mini masterpiece at home. Return your completed canvas no later than Feb. 3 to have your deposit returned and be included in our Tiny Art Show & Fundraiser Silent Auction. Art will be on display inside the library Feb. 10 – 24. All submitted art will be included in our Fundraiser Silent Auction on Feb. 24, with proceeds going towards funding library projects and programs for all ages. Submissions should be family-friendly. All ages and abilities are welcome to participate.
Chess Club for Kids!
Monday, Jan. 27, 1 – 3 p.m.
Kids in grades 1st – 6th are invited to learn how to play chess and practice with other children their own age. This program is free to attend and will be held in the teen area. No registration required.
Geeking out on Ghosts with the Iowa Psychic Bureau
Tuesday, Jan. 28, 5:30 p.m.
Join the Psychic Bureau of Iowa for a special program on Iowa ghost lore, legends & history, and an in-depth look at the world of modern ghost hunting & the work of mediums & psychics. This event is best suited for an adult audience. No registration required.
February Mystery Bag
Wondering what to read next? Check out our free monthly mystery bags for adults! Mystery bags have a different theme every month and contain a surprise selection of 4-5 books and an adult craft. Return the library books when you’re done with them - keep the craft! The February theme is “Meet Cute Must-Reads” and includes a selection of traditional and contemporary romance novels, meet-cutes, and books about love. The craft is a decorated Valentine’s Day candy box. Registration opens Jan. 27. Call the library at 641-792-4108 to register. Ages 18+.
Gory Stories Book Club

Do you love true crime? Join our monthly Gory Stories Book Club! Bring your lunch and join other true crime addicts to discuss a new book each month and share our favorite books, podcasts & documentaries! Copies of the book can be picked up at the library information desk. The February book selection is “American Black Widow” by Gregg Olsen.
Blues Under the Blue Roof: John Resch

John Resch performs at Blues Under the Blue Roof! Check out a new live blues music performance every month, all winter long! This event is held in the library meeting room and is free to attend. All ages welcome. This concert series is made possible by the South Skunk Blues Society, The Arts Connection and the Newton Public Library Foundation.
Tiny Art Fundraiser Silent Auction

Take home some amazing new art while supporting your library! Join us at the library on Monday, Feb. 24, to place your bids on your favorite miniature masterpiece at this very special fundraiser silent auction. Bidding runs from 5 - 6:30 p.m. and we’ll begin announcing winners at 6:30 p.m. Bidding will start at $3 per canvas. Cash & check accepted. Proceeds of the auction will go towards funding library programs for children, teens and adults.
