Tiny Art Show

Display your artistic talents and support the library at our Tiny Art Show & Fundraiser Silent Auction! Pick up a 4″x4″ canvas at the library with a $1 deposit, and create a mini masterpiece at home. Return your completed canvas no later than Feb. 3 to have your deposit returned and be included in our Tiny Art Show & Fundraiser Silent Auction. Art will be on display inside the library Feb. 10 – 24. All submitted art will be included in our Fundraiser Silent Auction on Feb. 24, with proceeds going towards funding library projects and programs for all ages. Submissions should be family-friendly. All ages and abilities are welcome to participate.

Introvert Book Club

Want to join a book club but just don’t have the time for a regular meeting? This is the book club for you! Each month there’s a new book selection, but there’s never a meeting. Copies of the book are available at the Information desk. The January book selection is “The Great Alone” by Kristin Hannah.

Make & Go Craft: Waterless Snow Globe

Monday, Jan. 20, 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Make your own waterless snow globe at our Make & Go Craft Night! This simple wintry craft takes about 20 minutes to assemble. This craft is designed with adults in mind, but children are welcome to attend & make a snow globe if they register with a participating adult. Registration is required to reserve your time slot. Registration opens Jan. 13. Call the library at 641-792-4108 to register.

Geeking out on Ghosts with the Iowa Psychic Bureau

Tuesday, Jan. 28, 5:30 p.m.

Join the Psychic Bureau of Iowa for a special program on Iowa ghost lore, legends & history, and an in-depth look at the world of modern ghost hunting & the work of mediums & psychics. Following the event 10-minute tarot & psychic/medium readings will be available for $10, for those who are interested. Registration and pre-payment are required for the tarot or psychic medium readings. There is no registration required if you only want to attend the program. Register at the library information desk beginning Jan. 20. This event is best suited for an adult audience.

Blues Under the Blue Roof: John Resch

Thursday, Feb. 6, 5 p.m.

John Resch performs at Blues Under the Blue Roof! Check out a new live blues music performance every month, all winter long! This event is held in the library meeting room and is free to attend. All ages welcome. This concert series is made possible by the South Skunk Blues Society, The Arts Connection and the Newton Public Library Foundation.

Take home some amazing new art while supporting your library! Join us at the library on Monday, Feb. 24, to place your bids on your favorite miniature masterpiece at this very special fundraiser silent auction. Bidding runs from 5 - 6:30 p.m. and we’ll begin announcing winners at 6:30 p.m. Bidding will start at $3 per canvas. Cash & check accepted. Proceeds of the auction will go towards funding library programs for children, teens and adults.
