Iowa State Patrol report says semi-truck overcorrected and crossed centerline

A truck driven by a Lynnville couple was in a head-on collision with a semi-truck on Saturday afternoon just south of Kellogg, killing the passenger and leaving the driver with serious injuries. According to crash reports from the Iowa State Patrol, it was confirmed Jill Vandyke, 51, had died at the scene.

The semi-truck driven by Leticia Penate De Rodriguez, 39, of Des Moines, was traveling southbound on Highway T-22 at around 4:27 p.m. when its tires went off the edge of the road. Penate De Rodriguez overcorrected and crossed the centerline onto the northbound lane.

Gerry Vandyke, 56, was driving a Chevy Silverado and took evasive action to the right, but the semi-truck collided head on. Both vehicles traveled off the roadway into the ditch. Gerry was transported by MercyOne Newton to a Des Moines hospital. Penate De Rodriguez did not sustain any injuries.

The accident is still under investigation.
