City of Newton hydrant flushing Oct. 25-26

The City of Newton Utilities Department will be flushing hydrants on Oct. 25 and Oct. 26. Hydrants north of First Avenue will be flushed on Oct. 25, while hydrants south of First Avenue will be flushed on Oct. 26.

Hydrant flushing is done to clear water mains of internal corrosion and residue, which naturally build up over time. While water service will not be interrupted, customers may experience a temporary drop in water pressure or slight discoloration. If discoloration occurs, run the cold-water tap until it clears. Avoid using hot water or doing laundry until the cold water runs clear.

Only hydrants with the highest flow and those at dead ends will be flushed.
