Books are for everyone

Penny Halferty just completed the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program at the Newton Public Library. Penny is just 21 months old and loves books. Her favorite was “The Lady With the Alligator Purse” by Nadine Bernard Westcott. Penny will have a great jump start on kindergarten by listening to 1,000 books. Studies show that the single biggest predictor of success in school is being read to daily at home. Reading together is also a great way to bond with your child. The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is designed to encourage daily reading at home and is an ongoing program at the Newton Public Library.
