Pleasant Hill man charged for alleged diesel fuel theft at Newton co-op

Police say suspect is accused of fraudulently obtaining $2.4K in fuel

Newton Police Department have arrested and charged a Pleasant Hill man accused of stealing diesel fuel from the Key Cooperative in Newton.

Newton Police Department has arrested a 32-year-old male accused of stealing about $2,400 in diesel fuel from a local co-op. Kenny Carreras Rodriguez of Pleasant Hill was arrested Sept. 25 in connection with the alleged diesel theft, and he has been charged with three separate felonies.

According to a press release from the police department, officers received a report on Sept. 16 from Newton Key Cooperative that an unknown male had used fraudulently obtained fuel card information to steal diesel fuel. Officers arrested Rodriguez nine days later without incident.

Rodriguez is charged with identity theft, unauthorized use of a credit card and second-degree theft, all of which are Class D felonies. Individuals who are found guilty of a Class D felony in Iowa can serve up to five years in prison and could be forced to pay $7,500 in fines.
