NPL supports littlest readers

Santos Curiel, age 2 1/2, just finished the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program.

Congratulations to Santos Curiel, age 2 1/2, who just finished the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program at the Newton Public Library. Santos’ favorite book is “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” by Dr. Seuss. Mom said she has it memorized after multiple readings!

Santos received a Dr. Seuss book bag full of items to help him get ready for kindergarten, and a book to keep, and his picture will be added to the Library’s “Wall of Fame.”

What is the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program? It’s a program designed to encourage daily reading with children from birth. Research shows that sharing books and conversations with children builds language skills. Sharing books together contributes to the child’s healthy development, by encouraging parent/child bonding, and providing the skills children will need to be successful in school. Give your child a great start to learning by registering for the free and ongoing 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program at the Newton Public Library today: https://www.newtongov.org/892/1000-Books-Before-Kindergarten
