FEMA Disaster Recovery Center to open in Newton

WEST Academy will host center to help residents with storm recovery July 1-5

The FEMA Disaster Recovery Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 1-5 at WEST Academy, 1302 First Ave. W., in Newton.

For almost one week starting on July 1, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and Jasper County Emergency Management Agency will open a disaster recovery center at WEST Academy, which is located on the north side of the E.J.H. Beard Administration Center, 1302 First Ave. W., in Newton.

The center will allow residents to report damages to their homes that occurred from May 20 to May 31. It is also where individuals may submit applications for federal assistance. Others may still file for FEMA assistance and other critical resources online at www.disasterassistance.gov.

The center will be open from 8 a.m to 6 p.m. July 1-5. Jasper County EMA said other dates will be available for those who cannot make these days.
