Iowa River Hospice Caregiver Support Group

Join Iowa River Hospice to share and discuss caregiver support, grief support, advance directives and legal questions, and healthcare decision-making for yourself or your loved ones. This monthly support group is ideal for seniors, families, and caregivers. Support group meetings take place on the last Tuesday of the month at 1 p.m. at the Newton Public Library. All group meetings are free to attend and open to the public. New topics discussed every month!
Summer Reading Kick-Off
Thursday, May 30, 4 – 6 p.m.
Children of all ages and their families are invited to join us on the library lawn for our annual Summer Reading Kick-Off! This is the first opportunity to register for the summer reading program and pick up your reading logs. Children who attend will have an opportunity to meet the Pigeon from “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!” and will receive a free ice cream treat from the Sea Turtle Ice Cream truck.
SOAR Raptor Rescue
Tuesday, June 4, 10 a.m.
Learn about the rescue work that the SOAR organization does to save eagles, hawks, and owls. This event is free to attend and open to the public. For ages 4+
Japanese Calligraphy Workshop
Thursday, June 6, 5:30 p.m.
Join Takeshi Hayasaka from the Japan America Society of Iowa, for an interactive workshop on Japanese Calligraphy. You’ll have an opportunity to practice your own calligraphy while learning about the tools and techniques of this beautiful, historic art form! Summer Plant Swap
Plant Drop-off: June 10 – 12
Plant Swap: Thursday, June 13, 5 – 6:30 p.m.
Pick up something green at our summer plant swap! Drop off your extra or unwanted plants at the library June 10 - 12 and pick up a swap ticket for each plant you bring in. Donations may include houseplants, flowers, vegetables, perennials, and annuals. Bring your tickets back on June 13 between 5 - 6:30 p.m. to exchange them for new plants to take home! Plants must be healthy, rooted in soil, and include identification.
Iris Paper Folding Class
June 25, 4 p.m.
Learn the art and technique of iris paper folding with paper artist Emily Mallory. Attendees will learn about iris folding while making their own greeting card. All materials will be provided.
