Amanda Price has resigned as executive director of the Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce, a position she held for almost eight years.

The announcement was made by the Chamber’s board of directors last week in an email to the membership. It stated that Price’s resignation was effective Feb. 22 and that she has chosen to pursue other career opportunities. The board of directors thanked Price for her service and obvious passion for the community.

Currently, Price is taking some time to figure out what her next move will be. She told Newton News she wants to pursue more creative passions that have been on the back burner for a while but were not possible with her former position. Price said she is excited for her new chapter in life.

As executive director of the Newton Chamber, Price wore many hats. In addition to working in a marketing and public relations capacity, she also served as event planner, crisis manager and business consultant. Price was also pivotal in the planning and organizing of the annual Fourth of July Parade.

In a follow-up with the Newton Chamber’s board of directors, Newton News was told the Fourth of July Parade will be continuing on as usual. The board is also in the beginning stages of its search for a new executive director, and it would thus have a new person in place to follow through with parade plans.

Other events Price participated in include Newton Fest and the lighted holiday events in the downtown area. Price also led Chamber exclusive events like the Chamber Ambassador Golf Outing, New Teacher’s Luncheon, Mentoring for Women and the Student Ambassador Program, among others.

“My favorite part of the job was all of the incredible people I have met and the relationships that I formed — many of them becoming mentors to me,” she said.

Price said she will miss being a part of making things happen in Newton and helping to grow her community. It is a massive job, she added, that takes so many great minds to see to fruition. Price said she learned so much from so many great leaders.

“I always want to see this community succeed and I hope to see more young leaders step up,” Price said.

The Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors is putting together a job description and requirements for the next executive director. The position will be posted on job boards, and it is board members’ hope to bring in a wide range of candidates.
