An Introduction to Advance Directives with Iowa River Hospice

Tuesday, Jan. 30, 1 p.m.

Join Iowa River Hospice for an introductory seminar on advance directives, including the important roles of durable power of attorney and medical power of attorney in your healthcare decision-making. This is the first meeting of a new monthly support group for seniors, families, and caregivers. Support group meetings take place on the last Tuesday of the month at 1 p.m. at the Newton Public Library. This and all group meetings are free to attend and open to the public. New topics discussed every month!

Tiny Art Show & Silent Auction

Display your artistic talents and support the library at our Tiny Art Show & Fundraiser Silent Auction! Pick up a 4″x4″ canvas at the library with a $1 deposit, and create a mini masterpiece at home. Return your completed canvas no later than Feb. 12 to have your deposit returned and be included in our Tiny Art Show & Fundraiser Silent Auction. Art will be on display inside the library Feb. 16 - 26. All submitted art will be included in our Fundraiser Silent Auction on February 26th, with proceeds going towards funding library projects and programs for all ages. Submissions should be family-friendly. All ages and abilities are welcome to participate!

February Mystery Bag

Wondering what to read next? Check out our FREE monthly mystery bags for adults! Mystery bags have a
different theme every month and contain a surprise selection of 4-5 books and an adult craft. Return the library books when you’re done with them - keep the craft! The February theme is “Romance Readers.” The February bag will include a selection of traditional and contemporary romance novels, meet cutes, and books about love. The craft is a denim heart keychain. Registration opens Jan. 29. Call the library at 641-792-4108 to register. Ages 18+

Gory Stories Book Club

Tuesday, Feb. 6, noon

Do you love true crime? Join our monthly Gory Stories Book Club! Bring your lunch and join other true crime addicts to discuss a new book each month and share our favorite books, podcasts, & documentaries! Copies of the book can be picked up at the library information desk. The February book selection is “We Carry Their Bones” by Erin Kimmerle.

Blues Under the Blue Roof

Monday, Feb. 12, 5 p.m.

Del “Saxman” Jones performs at our Blues Under the Blue Roof kick off! Check out a new live blues music performance every month, all winter long! This event is held in the library meeting room and is free to attend. All ages welcome. This concert series is made possible by the South Skunk Blues Society, The Arts Connection, and the Newton Public Library Foundation.
