Veterans receive Quilts of Valor

Newton Quilts of Valor

Legacy Valor Quilters of Newton, a member of the National Quilts of Valor Foundation, hosted its first Presentation of Quilts of Valor Nov. 30 at St Luke’s Methodist Church in Newton, to honor these local veterans who served this country and protected our freedoms.

Those veterans who were honored included Norman W. Boyle, Clayton C. Case, Larry Deppe, Fred Ehler, Steve Failor, Steve Heerema, Rock Illingworth, Dennis Kaisand, Jay Lahman, Robert J. Lamb, John McMahan, Mike Meredith, Jack Myers, Bobbette Palmer, Dave Rorabaugh, Wallace Schemerhorn, Dave Wickett and Denny Wilson. Not present was Larry Purvis.

The Quilts of Valor Foundation is a national organization founded in 2003 by a “Blue Star” mother, Catherine Roberts. The quilts are meant to offer healing, peace and comfort. The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover all combat service members and veterans who have honorably served our nation, whether in peacetime or times of crisis.
