First 1,000 books finisher in 2024

Katie Springer, 4, is the Newton Public Library's most recent reader of 1,000 books.

Congratulations to Katie Springer, 4, who is the first finisher of the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program at the Newton Public Library in 2024. Katie said her favorite book was “Pete the Cat” by Eric Litwin and James Dean. Katie received a Dr. Seuss book bag full of items to help her get ready for kindergarten and a book to keep.

What is the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program? It’s a program designed to encourage daily reading with children from birth. Research shows that sharing books and conversations with children builds language skills. Sharing books together contributes to the child’s healthy development, by encouraging parent/child bonding and providing the skills children will need to be successful in school.

Give your child a great start to learning by registering for the free and ongoing 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program at the Newton Public Library today at https://www.newtongov.org/892/1000-Books-Before-Kindergarten.
