The Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Master Gardener program will again host the Home Gardening Webinar Series, beginning in January and ending in March. Sessions will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. every Tuesday ending March 12.

Designed for anyone interested in gardening or horticulture, the series aims to inspire and educate. Throughout the series, participants will hear from experts at Iowa State, Cornell University, Jung Seed, Seed Savers Exchange, and the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship. The sessions are free and open to the public. Attendees can register to join through Zoom or join on Facebook Live.

Four sessions in January will cover edible topics including tomato diseases and disorders, grape pruning and canopy management, identifying and managing fruit and vegetable insect pests and seed saving.

February sessions will focus on environmental factors that can greatly impact gardening success. Topics will include soil health, climate extremes, cover crops for home gardeners, and compost quality and use.

In March, the series will conclude with two presentations about landscape design. Both will be led by Lisa Nunamaker, owner of Paper Garden Workshop, and will discuss planning a theme garden and budget garden design.

“The Home Gardening Webinar Series is for everyone, regardless of gardening experience,” Alicia Herzog, state Master Gardener coordinator with ISU Extension and Outreach, said. “The topics chosen will appeal to a wide range of viewers. This program has been a great success with our audience, and we look forward to bringing them another engaging season.”

The series is a good educational opportunity for existing master gardeners, those interested in becoming master gardeners and those who just want to learn more about these topics.

Zoom registration for the series is available at https://go.iastate.edu/UOOQEJ.

To join the Facebook Live, visit the event listing and RSVP as “attending” at https://www.facebook.com/iamastergardeners.

All webinars will be live with question-and-answer at the end. Zoom participation is limited to the first 500 attendees. Attendees will be directed to Facebook Live if the Zoom room is at capacity. Registration cannot be taken over the phone or through email.
