Volunteers needed to collect prairie seeds on National Public Lands Day

Individuals, families and groups are welcome to volunteer during National Public Lands Day Saturday at the NSNWR by hand collecting native prairie seed.

Celebrate National Public Lands Day (NPLD) from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 23 at Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge by volunteering to hand collect native prairie seed. NPLD is the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer effort on public lands. Enjoy the fall weather, wildflowers and viewing wildlife while participating in this beneficial and fun activity that helps build more prairie.

Individuals, families and groups are welcome to join, and snacks will be provided. You can bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at the indoor or outdoor eating areas. To register visit https://forms.office.com/g/f3KkrPytmA or call 515-994-3400.

Volunteers are required to fill out a volunteer agreement. Those under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign the volunteer form. Participants are required to wear sturdy, closed shoes, a long-sleeved shirt, and pants, and bring a refillable water bottle. It is also recommend volunteers bring insect repellent and sunscreen.
