Christina Bohannan announces second run for Congress

Democratic candidate to take on Republican IA-01 incumbent Mariannette Miller-Meeks

Christina Bohannan announced this past week that she will be campaigning for Iowa's 1st Congressional District seat currently held by Republican Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks.

Christina Bohannan is giving Iowa’s 1st Congressional District another shot.

The former representative of the Iowa House announced Aug. 15 that she will be making a second run for Congress, challenging Republican incumbent Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks once again for the District 1 seat, which includes Jasper County. Bohannan first ran for the seat in 2022.

“Iowans need somebody who will put them first in Washington,” Bohannan said in video announcing her campaign. “…My opponent Mariannette Miller-Meeks has consistently taken votes against Iowa families and against our seniors. She voted against affordable prescription drugs, against good-paying jobs for Iowans.”

In a press release following her campaign announcement, Christina Bohannan for Congress announced it had raised more than $276,000 in the first 24 hours, bringing in more than two-and-a-half times more money than the first 24 hours of her campaign launch in 2021.

More than 75 percent of contributions came from Iowans.

Christina Bohannan announced this past week that she will be campaigning for Iowa's 1st Congressional District seat currently held by Republican Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks.

“I am overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and the historic level of support I have received from people all across Iowa at the launch of my campaign,” Bohannan said. “Iowans are ready for change, and the contrast between me and my opponent couldn’t be clearer.

“Iowans are excited about this campaign because they are tired of politics as usual. We need and deserve a representative who works for us–and I will always put Iowans first.”
