Deputy Coordinator earns first in the state certification of IACEM- Advanced

Earlier this year Deputy Coordinator Josh Harding completed the process of earning the level of Iowa Certified Emergency Manager, Advanced (IACEM-A). In doing so, he became the first Emergency Management professional in Iowa to earn this certification.

IEMA and HSEMD are advancing emergency management as professions in Iowa. State code provides minimum standards for the hiring and continued education of county emergency management coordinators. IEMA has developed the Iowa Certified Emergency Manager Program (IA-CEM), further enhancing the credibility of the profession.

The Tiered Iowa Certified Emergency Manager Program is progressive and recognizes individual experience, knowledge, and skills. It focuses on the development of highly competent emergency management coordinators and programs for all of Iowa.

All Emergency Managers in Iowa are required to complete the basic level of Certification with the levels of Advanced and Executive being the next optional levels to pursue.

“It was a challenging process but ultimately will help to ensure that the citizens and communities in Jasper County will continue to have a well-trained and equipped Emergency Management Agency,” Harding said.

The award was presented July 7 at the Iowa Emergency Managers Association meeting in Dallas County.
