Newton Noon Kiwanis
Newton artist Pauli Zmolek Eades was the guest speaker for the June 21 meeting of the Newton Noon Kiwanis.
Eades, who grew up in Newton, earned a BFA from the University of Iowa. She then attended the Schuler School of Fine Arts in Baltimore, MD, where she trained in oil painting in the old masters’ style. She was hired as the first woman to serve as a decorative painter for the Architect of the United States Capitol. She was responsible for designing the decorative panels that adorn the Senate Chamber. She also worked for almost ten years in the Library of Congress on a project to restore original artwork.
Eades moved away from Newton at the age of 24 and came back when her late parents, Lee and Mary Zmolek, became ill. She has lived here full-time since 2018. Now, Eades concentrates on painting portraits and landscapes. She has a studio at the Centre for Arts & Artists in Newton and has opened That Frame Shop at 709 S. Second Ave. W.
