Academic Achievement

Central College

PELLA — Central College recognized 351 students who were named to the Spring 2023 dean’s list, including: Grace Benson of Newton, Amelia Brown of Prairie City, Tess Brunsmann of Newton, Riley Davidson of Newton, Carson Fisk of Searsboro, Abigail Gruver of Sully, Dylann Huyser of Lynnville, Baylee Jansen of Sully, Parker Lawrence of Maxwell, Gage Linahon of Newton, Carter Nelsen of Rhodes, Chance Palm of Otley, Morgan Peterson of Newton, Alexander Ver Heul of Monroe, Christopher Ver Heul of Monroe, Dylann Huyser of Lynnville. The honor is awarded to full-time students who achieve a 3.5 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale while taking 12 or more graded credit hours for the semester.

Hawkeye Community College

WATERLOO – Austin Reynolds of Newton, was named to the dean’s list at Hawkeye Community College for the spring 2023 semester. To make the dean’s list, an individual must be a full-time student and successfully complete 12 or more credits in the fall or spring semesters with a semester grade point average of 3.50 or better.

Northwestern College

ORANGE CITY — Emma Dunsbergen and Kallie Van Kley, each of Newton and students at Northwestern College, earned a spot on the Academic Dean’s List for the spring 2023 semester and are considered Collegiate Scholars. Collegiate Scholars must earn a grade point average of 3.75 or higher.

Morningside University

SIOUX CITY — Morningside University has named 146 students as Dimmitt Scholars in recognition of high academic distinction for the 2022-23 academic year. Dimmitt Scholars must be full-time students who have completed at least 45 credits of college work with a cumulative grade point average between 3.50 and 3.75. Area students include Bess Telfer of Prairie City and Alexandra Inskeep of Reasnor.

Simpson College

INDIANOLA — Simpson College (simpson.edu) announced that 214 students made the dean’s list for the spring 2023 semester. Students named to the dean’s list achieved a grade point average between 3.70 and 3.99 and included: Joseph Butcher of Collins, Adria Fullerton of Maxwell, Caleb Geer of Monroe, Hailey Schutte of Monroe, Kenzie Van Haaften of Otley.

Area students named to the president’s list for the spring 2023 semester include: Holly Bailey of Colfax, Colbee Cunningham of Colfax, Brenny Frederick of Maxwell, Caleb Fullerton of Maxwell, Elie Tuhn of Baxter. Students named to the president’s list achieved a 4.00 grade point average.

University of Mississippi

UNIVERSITY, MS — Maren Egging of Reasnor, was named to the University of Mississippi’s spring 2023 chancellor’s honor roll, reserved for students who earn a semester grade point average of 3.75-4.0.

Buena Vista University

STORM LAKE — Area students graduating from Buena Vista University in spring 2023 include: McKinzie Tjaden of Colfax, Master of Education in teacher leadership, curriculum, & instruction; Shelbi Fisher of Maxwell, Master of Education in teacher leadership, curriculum, & instruction; Hunter Donovan of Prairie City, Master of Science in Education in counseling; Julianna Gates of Runnells, graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology; Bailey Ensminger of Colfax, graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English (5-12 teaching licensure); Ryan Andersen of Runnells, graduated with a Master of Education in teacher leadership, curriculum, & instruction.

University of Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Sadie Clark of Melbourne and Trey Garton of Newton, were named to the president’s list during fall semester 2022 at The University of Alabama. The president’s list is for students with an academic record 4.0.

Milwaukee School of Engineering

MILWAUKEE, WI — Charles Skinner of Newton, was named to the Milwaukee School of Engineering’s dean’s list with high honors for the 2023 spring quarter. Students who have maintained a 3.70 or higher grade point average receive “high honors.”

Wartburg College

WAVERLY — Faith Howard of Prairie City, was named to the Wartburg College winter/May term dean’s list by earning a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or above.

Missouri Western State University

ST. JOSEPH, MO — Hailey Pierce of Mingo, was named to Missouri Western State University’s dean’s honor roll for the spring semester of 2023. Students who carried 12 hours or more for graded credit and earned a grade point average of 3.5 or better qualify for the honor.

Marshalltown Community College

MARSHALLTOWN — Tommy Thompson of Kellogg, was named to the spring 2023 (January to May) dean’s list at Marshalltown Community College. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must have taken 12 or more credit hours during the semester (a full-time class load) and have earned at least a 3.5 grade point average.

Mount Mercy University

CEDAR RAPIDS — Janelle Rozendaal of Lynnville, made Mount Mercy University’s spring 2023 dean’s list. Students with a semester grade point average of 3.60 or better, and who are graded for six or more semester hours, are eligible for inclusion on the dean’s list.
