Authorities identify Marshalltown man who died June 4 at Rock Creek

Investigation and autopsy results are pending, according to Jasper County Sheriff’s Office

Law enforcement has released the identify of the man who died after falling off a dock shortly after midnight June 4 at Rock Creek State Park in Jasper County.

Larry D. Conner, 76, of Marshalltown was identified as the person who died in the incident. Authorities say an investigation and autopsy results are pending.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 12:06 a.m. June 4 where the caller indicated they heard a male subject yelling for help near the west side boat ramp of Rock Creek State Park. Initial investigations shows there were two subjects fishing together when one of them fell off the dock into the water.

According to a press release, the second subject called for help and was able to get the the Conner out of the water. An officer of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources arrived on scene to find the man unresponsive. The officer requested medical assistance.

Emergency response teams from Kellogg and Newton, as well as sheriff office deputies from Poweshiek County and Jasper County assisted with incident. Helicopter assistance from MercyOne was also requested. However, medical intervention was unsuccessful and Conner was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Jasper County Medical Examiner and the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner are assisting in the investigation.
