Municipal Band opens concert series Thursday

The Newton Municipal Band is set to open the 2023 season of Summer Concerts in the Park at 7 p.m. Thursday at Fred Maytag Bowl in Maytag Park.      

The band was eager to begin preparing and a large group of talented musicians gathered for the first rehearsal. Director Jim Beerends has chosen an exciting and varied line-up of music for the concert. Tunes will range from serious to whimsical, easy listening to foot-stomping. He was certainly pleased with the large gathering for the first rehearsal, but notes that there is always room for those who desire to play.

Audience members are invited to bring blankets, lawn chairs, even picnic suppers, for a wonderful family outdoor musical experience. The band’s announcer, Fred Chabot, will step to the microphone at 7 p.m. sharp.
