Spring is in bloom at the Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge in Prairie City. The public is invited to celebrate Iowa’s dynamic prairie landscape from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday hosted by the Refuge and the non-profit Friends of Neal Smith NWR.
Celebrate the 53rd Earth Day and learn about the importance of the prairie ecosystem. Guests will enjoy family-friendly activities hosted at the refuge visitor center, including:
• Crafts and coloring tables
• Elk antler and bison horn ring toss, includes prizes
• Plant milkweed seeds in a peat pot to take home
• Walk along one of the trails
• Take a drive along the five-mile Prairie Wildlife Drive loop
• Indoor exhibits and Explorer Sheets for young visitors
• 15-minute introductory movie about the tallgrass prairie
• Free bison stickers
• Shop at the Friends of Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge Nature Store
• Lunch available for purchase at food trucks
