Introvert Book Club

Want to join a book club but just don’t have the time for a regular meeting? This is the book club for you! Each month there’s a new book selection, but there’s never a meeting. Pick up your copy of the book of the month at the library information desk. The October selection is “Practical Magic” by Alice Hoffman.

Sit ‘n Stitch

Oct. 12, 10 a.m.

Enjoy a cup of coffee, tea, or bring your own beverage, while working on your current stitching project. Stitchers of all experience levels are welcome! This is an open forum for crafters to share their projects, ask other stitchers for assistance or troubleshooting, and enjoy crafting company. This event will be held in the library meeting room. No registration required.

Take & Make Craft Kit: Painted Ghost Rocks

Pick up a free take & make craft kit and paint your own spook-tacular ghost rocks! Crafters will need to supply their own paint brush, all other materials are included. Registration is encouraged to reserve your kit. Registration opens Oct. 10. Kits can be picked up Oct. 17 - 22. Call 641-792-4108 to register.  Limit 2 kits per household.

Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest

Entries Accepted Oct. 17 – 20

Our annual kid’s pumpkin decorating contest is back! Decorate a pumpkin or gourd as your favorite book character. Pumpkins may be painted, dressed, or accessorized, but not carved. The public will vote for winners Oct. 21-29, with winners announced on Oct 31st! Winners in each category will receive a Halloween treat basket!

Morbid Curiosities: An Evening with Edgar Allen Poe

Oct. 24, 5:30 p.m.

The master of Gothic horror comes from beyond the veil to talk with audiences about his life and share his best stories and poetry including “The Masque of the Red Death”, “The Raven” and “The Tell Tale Heart.” This program is free to attend and open to the public.

Autumn Book Swap

Nov. 7, 5 – 6:30 p.m.

Clean out your bookshelves and pick up some new-to-you books at our autumn book swap! Drop off your gently used books at the library Nov. 1 - 5 and pick up a book swap ticket for each book you bring in. Bring your tickets back on Nov. 7, between 5:00 and 6:30 p.m. to pick out new books from the swap to take home! Books should be in good condition and gently used. All covers and pages must be intact, and should have minimal markings.
