The Newton FFA Chapter was named the Champion Team in the annual Iowa FFA Horse Career Development Event June 14 at Kirkwood Community College. Members of the first-place team included: Cadie Horn, Madison Henwood, Trinity-Ann Hanson and Addison Ross. Cadie Horn was named the High Individual Overall in the competition.
The team evaluated halter and performance classes. They also answered questions over the classes and gave oral reasons to explain their placings. A written examination was included along with a team problem-solving competition.
Newton was the top team in oral reasons and also in the problem-solving exercise. The Newton members will represent Iowa at the National FFA Horse Career Development Event, which will be held at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis this October.
