Borrow a Librarian: Drop-In Photo Digitizing
May 9, 9 – 11:30 a.m.
Now is the perfect time to start scanning those old family photos! Drop-in on the second Monday morning of the month to learn about our Memory Lab Digitization Equipment and have our Public Services Librarian scan your photos. Sit ‘n Stitch

Enjoy a cup of coffee, tea, or bring your own beverage, while working on your current stitching project. Stitchers of all experience levels are welcome! This is an open forum for crafters to share their projects, ask other stitchers for assistance or troubleshooting, and enjoy crafting company.
Iowa Vet: Man, Woman, & Beast

Iowans have a long tradition of serving in our country’s times of need. A white-haired Iowa man recalled serving in the War of 1812 as an aide to his dad. A 20-year-old Iowa girl gave her life at the Battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War, a Red Oak boy joined Teddy Roosevelt’s Rough Riders in the Spanish American War, and two Iowa dogs made their way to war with an Iowa regiment. Join historian, Cheryl Mullenbach, to hear the stories of these heroes and more. No registration required, all ages welcome.
Food for Fines
May 16 – 21
Pay down your fines with a food! During the week of May 16th, we’ll waive overdue material fines in exchange for a food donation. Donations will not be accepted for missing or damaged library materials, and wifi hotspot fines are not eligible. Donations must be canned or otherwise non-perishable food items, and should not be expired. All donations will be given to the Salvation Army Food Bank in Newton. 1 item = $1 in fines!
Readers Rendezvous Book Club
May 18, 1 p.m.
Get a jump start on your 2022 reading goals with our new adult book clubs! This book club reads popular titles in a wide variety of genres, and is sure to have something for every reader. New members always welcome. The May book selection is, “Wuthering Heights” by Emily Bronte. Copies of the book can be picked up at the library information desk.
Blues Under the Blue Roof: The Avey Grouws Duo
May 19, 5 p.m.
Join the Avey Grouws Duo for a live blues music concert at the library! This event is free to attend and will be held outdoors on the library lawn. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be moved inside the library meeting room. Music lovers of all ages are welcome to attend. This program is sponsored by the Arts Connection, South Skunk Blues Society, and the Newton Public Library Foundation.
