Newton man wins $20,000 lottery prize

Patrick Brown wins top prize in ‘Corner Payout’ scratch game

CLIVE — A Newton man is eyeing a vacation and home improvements after he won a $20,000 lottery prize.

“Pretty ecstatic, really,” Patrick Brown told officials Wednesday as he claimed his prize at lottery headquarters in Clive. “It’s hard to believe.”

Brown, 60, won the first top prize in the Iowa Lottery’s “Corner Payout” scratch game. He bought a few tickets at New Star, 702 First Ave. E. in Newton, and scratched them off when he got home.

As soon as he uncovered the big prize on one of the tickets, he showed it to his girlfriend, who was just as surprised as he was.

“We ran to the gas station to verify that it was a winner and sure enough, it was,” Brown said.

Corner Payout is a $2 scratch game that features seven top prizes of $20,000 and overall odds of 1 in 3.83. For more information about this game, and the number of prizes still available, visit ialottery.com.
