Aktion Club volunteers at Pizza Ranch

Members make $242.70 for their efforts

Aktion Club member Stephanie Jenness cleans a table at Pizza Ranch in Newton as part of a fundraiser that helps the group raise money for local and national charities.

Aktion Club and Newton Noon Kiwanis members bused tables at Pizza Ranch March 17 for tips and a 7 percent donation of the evening’s receipts.

Tamara Lloyd, Aktion Club Governor for the Kiwanis Nebraska-Iowa District, said the group made $242.70 during the fundraiser. The club donates to United Way, St. Nick’s Christmas Club, The Salvation Army, Angel Tree and a group that helps those with cleft palates.

The club, which was formed locally 16 years ago, “makes life easier for people with mental disabilities,” Lloyd said.

Club members also sell chocolate bars and original watercolor notecards that can be purchased at the Centre for Arts and Artists, said club sponsor Margaret Caldwell.

The Aktion Club’s Spring Fling is set for 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 12 at Progress Industries’ The Place, 113 S. Second Ave. E. in Newton The public is invited for food and dancing and the event is free.
