The award-winning comedian and magician, Chipper Lowell, will perform Feb. 20 at the Newton High School auditorium.
Hosted by the Jasper County Concert Association, the show will begin at 3 p.m. and feature Lowell’s signature odd brand of infectious mayhem. The Massachusetts-born entertainer has more than 25 years experience on the stage and is known by the press as the “artistic cyclone of talent and comedy.” Iowa State University fans, rejoice!
Lowell’s skills shine onstage with his witty remarks, bizarre feats of original magic, ad-libbing with audience members who can’t stop laughing, attempting pointless juggling stunts and pulling “a seemingly endless barrage of unusual thing-a-ma-bobs and gadgets out of prop trunks.
Tours across the globe exposed Lowell — a two-time winner of “Comedy Magician of the Year” — to audiences throughout the United States, Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and Mexico. He has also performed on “The Tonight Show” and “Masters of Illusion!” and several other TV shows.
According to Lowell’s online biography, he was born and raised on traveling circuses and large scale arena shows with his show business parents. His father was a professional clown with the Ringling Bros., and his mother was an aerialist. By the time he was 17, Lowell was creating his own shows.
Of course, fittingly enough, those shows were often parodying the variety arts he grew up with. But he was also creating his own mesmerizing magic routines. With improv training from the Groundlings Theater in Los Angeles under his belt, Lowell’s specialties as a comical and magical entertainer began to flourish.
Tickets for the show will be available at the door for $20.
