The Junior Membership Committee of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution announces the application period for the Helen Pouch Memorial Fund Classroom Grant will be open Feb. 15 through May 1.
The fund supports two grants of $500 each for two classrooms in each state and the District of Columbia totaling $51,000. Classroom teachers for grades kindergarten through 12th grade are eligible to apply. The applicant must be endorsed by a local DAR chapter and complete the grant award application.
Grinnell Chapter DAR will accept applications from teachers in Grinnell, Newton, Prairie City Monroe, Baxter, Colfax-Mingo, Lynnville-Sully, BGM, Montezuma and the Meskwaki Settlement School. One application will be selected to forward to the state.
To request an application form, email gailbonath@mchsi.com. Grant winners will be announced at the end of June 2022, and awards will be mailed to the teacher no later than Sept. 30.
In 2021 Rebecca Talk, first-grade teacher at Fairview Elementary School, won a Helen Pouch grant and purchased Frog Family fun packs math and language art games for school children to play at home to practice skills while involving parents.
