Prairie City Police Chief dies of complications from COVID-19

The City of Prairie City announced Jan. 13 police chief Michael German died of complications from COVID-19. German served the Prairie City Police Department since 2014, taking over as police chief following the departure of former chief Joe Bartello in 2020.

German’s death is being considered a Line of Duty death.

“Chief German was a dedicated servant leader in the Prairie City community and beyond,” the city said in a release. “He will be greatly missed.”

An account to assist German’s family has been created at Great Western Bank in Prairie City.

“We are deeply saddened with the passing of Chief German, our thoughts and prayers go out to Angi and the rest of his family,” former Prairie City Mayor and current council member Chad Alleger said. “I personally will miss our many conversations, laughs and his love for our community. May he Rest In Peace.”
