Maytag Dairy Farms is moving its retail store to downtown Newton and allowing customers to perfectly pair the company’s signature product with a glass of wine.
The farm’s Hometown Retail Store has offered a variety of cheeses and other products made at the 80-year company. Currently located at its 2282 E. Eighth St. N. facility, the store will be closed Oct. 27 to execute the move, and will then re-open its new home Nov. 2 inside Muse Wine Bar, 109 N. Second Ave. E.
Don Boelens, CEO of Maytag Dairy Farms, in an Oct. 25 press release that the company is looking forward to the newfound accessibility of its products, as well as the partnership with Muse, which, coincidentally, is located near the north side entrance to the historic Hotel Maytag.
“We are thrilled at this opportunity to partner with Muse Wine Bar, a great local business, to bring Maytag Dairy Farms products to a broader audience,” Boelens said. “Being in a more retail-friendly environment — and a more convenient location — means a better overall experience for our customers.”
Kristina Gallaher, manager of Muse Wine Bar, is also thrilled for the downtown business to offer a great pairing with its trademark libation.
“We are excited to be able to bring the Maytag Dairy Farms cheeses to downtown Newton in our new Hometown Retail Store located right here in Muse,” Gallaher said. “Many customers enjoy the cheeses on our charcuterie boards and will now have the opportunity to buy their favorites to take home.”
Jennifer Seeley, vice-president of sales and marketing at Maytag Dairy Farms, said the Hometown Retail Store’s new home will closely mirror what the company sells currently, including Maytag Blue Cheese products, a number of other Maytag-branded cheeses, honey and cheese knives.
Customers will also be able to purchase the newly launched Maytag Mead, a collaboration with Foundry Distilling Company.
“We are so excited!” Seeley told Newton News. “I mean, we’ll be right in town, we’ll be in the Maytag Hotl and we’ll be in a wine bar! I don’t think it could get much better than Maytag Blue Cheese being sold in Muse Wine Bar. The stars really lined up for us.
“It’s such a perfect pairing — and there will be lots of opportunities to do exciting things with our new friends at Muse.”
Hours for the store will be posted at www.maytagdairyfarms.com and will include evenings and weekends, times that will previously unavailable to customers.
Known for its world-famous wheels of blue cheese, Maytag Dairy Farms has been operating in Newton since 1941. The company specializes in making “world-class, hand-crafted artisan blue cheese.”
Muse Wine Bar opened in Newton at the end of November 2019, offering wines by-the-glass and by-the-bottle to enjoy.
