The Jasper County Concert Association announced Monday that the acclaimed Massachusetts-based a cappella group, Ball in the House, will perform Sept. 13 at the Newton High School auditorium.
For more than 20 years, the highly sought after band of Bostonites has been bringing their special brand of music that combines R&B, soul and pop to audiences of all ages. Ball in the House performs more than 200 concerts a year and has played at numerous fairs, festivals, arts centers and private parties.
Ball in the House has opened for The Beach Boys, The Jonas Brothers, The Temptations, Gladys Knight and Lionel Richie. The band has also traveled the world headlining China International Chorus Festival in two separate years and in 2016 won the Boston Harmony Sweepstakes.
The group was also voted the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities’ Band of the Year and Best of Boston for Outstanding Musical Performers.
For six years the band garnered attention as the voices behind the Cool Whip commercials. Ball in the House also wrote and performed a jungle for Amazon’s Prime Day. The band has made appearances on “America’s Got Talent,” “The Today Show” and “The Daily Buzz.”
Bob Lane, president of JCCA, has not seen Ball in the House perform but he is excited to see what the band can do.
“They’re a lively group, they’re a cappella — it’s fun to hear an a cappella group that can sing without instruments of any kind,” Lane said. “I’ve a cappella groups before and it’s just fascinating. It’s just to see a group perform without any musical instruments for a change. It’ll be very entertaining and worthwhile.”
In July 2020, JCCA announced its 2020-2021 concert schedule had to be changed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Allied Concert Services, which supplies the artists for the association, postponed all concerts until January 2021.
As a result, JCCA has organized six concerts for its 2021-2022 schedule. Ball in the House is the first of those six concerts.
“Everybody’s anxious to get back,” Lane said. “We’ll encourage people to separate themselves. Groups or coupes that come together can separate themselves from other groups. The auditorium is big enough for that.”
The concert will start at 7 p.m. Wearing masks is recommended and hand sanitizer will be provided at the door. Call 641-521-7046 for ticket information.
