KELLOGG – A 9-year-old boy went missing in the water Saturday afternoon at Rock Creek State Park and was later flown to Des Moines for medical attention.
The boy’s condition is still unknown.
At about 5:30 p.m. Jasper County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a 911 call of a young male that was missing in the water near the beach area of Rock Creek State Park. Bystanders located the child approximately eight minutes later.
Prior to Iowa DNR Officers, Kellogg Fire/EMS, Newton Fire/EMS and Jasper County Sheriff Deputies arriving to the scene, bystanders began providing CPR. First responders then took over provided care for the child.
The boy, whose name was not released by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, was then flown to a Des Moines area hospital.
Jasper County Sheriff Office sends its thoughts and prayers to the child and his family. Sheriff John Halferty also thanked the bystanders who provided CPR during the incident.
