Grinnell motorcyclist seriously injured in head-on crash in Lynnville

Man was life-flighted to Mercy, other driver sustained minor injuries

LYNNVILLE – A Grinnell man who was riding a motorcycle was seriously injured and had to be life-flighted from the scene of a two-vehicle crash that occurred at 4:30 p.m. June 1 in Lynnville.

Alan Muntz, 67, was flown to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines after he was struck head on by another driver in a 2016 Chevy Equinox LTZ near the 300 block of East Street, according to Iowa State Patrol Crash Reports.

Jennifer Lunkley, 39, of Pella, sustained minor injuries from the crash. Reports say Lunkley’s vehicle was traveling southbound on Highway T38 while Muntz’s vehicle was driving northbound.

The car crossed the center line for an unknown reason and collided with the motorcycle, throwing Muntz from his vehicle and into the east ditch until first responders arrived.

The incident is pending further investigation.

Jasper County Sheriff John Halferty told Newton News both his office and the fire departments of Sully and Lynnville assisted at the scene.

“One patient was life-flighted from the scene,” he said. “It looks like a car-motorcycle (crash). And the motorcycle rider was the one that was transported by helicopter.”
