The City of Colfax is preparing for Iowa’s Great Bike to come through town July 27. RAGBRAI, the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, will pass through Colfax from Mitchelville on its way to Newton and its overnight stop in Tama-Toledo.
“We’re super excited,” organizer Brad Magg said.
The cyclists are expected to roll into town between 10 and 11 a.m. There will be plenty of activities and food onsite including music by Tropical Steel, a Caribbean Steel Band with local ties, and Richard Arndt.
Currently, the committee is gathering entries for a Port-a-Potty decorating contest. For $40, people can sponsor and decorate one of 30 porta potties that will be in Colfax for the event.
Decorating starts at 6 a.m. the day of the ride and must be completed by 9 a.m. All decorations must be removed by 5 p.m.
As the contest says “seats” are “going” fast. To reserve a porta potty call 515-674-5032 or email bstonehocker@bankiowa.bank
“We’re also looking for volunteers to help with the beer garden, a Quarry Springs Park and Colfax Main Street fundraiser,” Magg said. “Along with beer we are also going to be having Bloody Mary’s, mimosas and vodka lemonades.”
The committee is also still accepting applications for food vendors for the day.
A great time is expected to be had while the 10 of thousands of bikers make their way through town. Visit the Colfax RAGBRAI Facebook page for more upcoming events for the day.
