Fred Dee Van Zante, the son of Harris and Kathryn (Kaldenberg) Van Zante, was born Dec. 1, 1953, in Newton. He graduated from the Pella Christian Senior High School. Fred enjoyed staying busy. He worked for the Maytag Company in Newton for 30 years while continuing to work his farm.
Fred was a member of the Newton Christian Reformed Church where he was active in many leadership and service areas. Fred enjoyed tinkering, truck pulling, shooting guns, Cadillacs, working in the shop, farming, teasing the grandkids and dropping in on and visiting friends and family.
Fred died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2020, at his home. He was 67 years old.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents. Those left to honor Fred’s memory include his sons, Aaron (Jennifer) Williams, Tait (Jennifer) Van Zante, Jed Van Zante (Tobbie Walter) and Eli Van Zante; his grandchildren, Damon Williams, Chase Williams, Morgan Van Zante, Makenna Van Zante, Luke Van Zante, Michelle Burkett and Keragan Van Zante; his sister, Fos (Craig) Van Wyngarden; his nephews, Cory (Tafanie) Van Wyngarden and their children, Isabella, Emmaline and Ruby and Kyle (Allison) Van Wyngarden and their children, Drew and Clair.

Memorials may be designated to the Newton Christian School and may be left at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home.
