Iowa legislative Republican incumbents Sen. Amy Sinclair, 14th District, and Rep. Jon Thorup, 28th District, both secured another term after running uncontested in the 2020 election.
“It is awesome, I am thrilled and excited with the results of today’s election and I am excited to serve the residents of District 14 for another four years,” Sinclair said. “It’s a great night for Iowa.”
A total of 2,803 votes were cast for Sinclair with 27 going to write-in candidates, according to unofficial results. Sinclair will be entering her third four-year term in the Iowa State Senate with the victory. The term will run through January 2025.
Sinclair currently serves as the education committee and government oversight committee chair and sits on the appropriations, commerce, judiciary and rules and administration committees. She also the vice chair of the education appropriations subcommittee, on the legislative council and the school finance formula review committee.
District 14 covers the entirety of Clarke, Decatur, Wayne and Lucas counties and a majority of Marion County and extends to the southeast corner of Jasper County.
Thorup gathered 2,755 votes in Tuesday’s election with 26 cast for write-ins, , according to unofficial results. This will be his second term in Iowa’s House of Representatives serving for two more years.
In the house, Thorup currently serves at the vice chair of the public safety committee and on the administration and rules, government oversight, natural resources and transportation committees. He is also on the transportation, infrastructure and capitals appropriations subcommittee and criminal justice information system advisory committee.
House District 28 encompasses portions of Jasper, Lucas and Marion Counties.
