Jerry Erwin Sanders, Sr., 80, of Newton, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020, at Newton Health Care Center. A funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials to the American Parkinson Disease Association may be left at the funeral home.
Jerry was born July 23, 1940, to parents Arthur and Mildred (Trotter) Sanders at the family home in Metz. Jerry was united in marriage with Mary Polly and they had two sons. After they divorced he was united in marriage with Rosemarie Selby in 1972 and they had two children. After Rosemarie passed away in 1982, Jerry was married to Barbara Foster Gladson May 8, 1984.
Jerry was employed at Newton Sheet Metal for 17 years and later the Iowa Interstate Railroad. Jerry loved being outside, hunting and fishing. He also loved being with his family. Jerry loved riding bicycles to go to play in the park with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed his time at Mariposa where he would camp and fish.
Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Barbara Sanders; four children, Jerry (Loretta) Sanders, Jr., Art (Becky) Sanders, David Sanders and Kathy (Jim) Fields; three step-children, Lori Thomasson, Barbie (John) Van Baale and Jeff (Dawn) Gladson; 22 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bud (Wilma) Hansen, Dick (Marsha) Hansen and Gene Hansen; and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosemarie; sister, Vicky Lund; and brother, Tom Sanders.
