Baxter softball bows out after loss to BGM

BAXTER — Baxter's softball team scored first but four errors and eight walks were too much to overcome during a 6-3 loss to BGM in a Class 1A Region 5 matchup on Monday night.

The Bolts had four hits in the loss. Baxter scored one run in the second inning. BGM tied it with one in the fourth and went ahead for good with three runs in the fifth.

Baxter scored one run in the sixth and seventh innings to inch closer. but it wasn't enough.

Holly Jessen led the Bolts (6-6) with a double, one run, one walk and two steals, while Mandee Selover added one run, one RBI, one walk and one steal.

Kaitlyn Headlee finished with one hit and one RBI, McKenzie Eslinger and Hannah Jones each had one hit and Amber Weltha and Maddie Pierce each walked once. Lilie Vansice also scored a run.

Kinley Bethards took the loss in the circle, allowing six runs — two earned — on nine hits with one strikeout and eight walks in seven innings.

Taylor Moel had three hits and one RBI to lead BGM (5-8). Olivia Ohler added two hits and one RBI, Karsyn Minnaert scored two runs and Morgan Kline collected two RBIs.

BGM advanced to play Grand View Christian (14-8) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in Brooklyn.
