A Kelley woman was arrested for public intoxication after entering the Newton Police Department lobby Tuesday evening claiming people were following her.
According to the police report, Gina M. Pender, 59, entered the station at 11:46 p.m. wanting to file a report. When officers came to speak to her, she was found on the floor hiding behind the garbage can. Pender stated people were following her, pointing guns at her, poisoning her jeep, her car and her clothes. Pender admitted to smoking marijuana and to being on a lot of medication.
Pender’s pupils were small and non-reactive and she showed signs of severe paranoia. Pender refused to call anyone for a ride and refused to go to MercyOne Newton Medical Center for treatment. She then declined to participate in sobriety maneuvers.
Pender could not keep her arms or legs from twitching and she also stated she had smoked meth in the past and had not slept in a couple days. She was charged with public intoxication was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail. She refused her right to a chemical test at the jail.
Pender was released from jail on a $300 cash or surety bond. Her initial appearance in court was Wednesday.
