GRINNELL — Facing their first frigid Friday night of play, Newton High’s freshmen responded well on a sloppy natural-grass football field at Grinnell.
The Cardinal freshmen improved to 5-1 with a 44-8 victory over the hosting Grinnell Tigers Friday.
“With the colder weather we stressed playing physical and with energy. We had a great mindset from the start and I think it showed in our performance,” Newton freshman head coach Trent Powers said.
No game statistics were available by presstime.
“We are really happy how we are playing going into our final two games,” Powers said.
Newton hosts Pella at 4:45 p.m. Friday at H.A. Lynn Stadium then go to Knoxville on Oct. 25.
