PLEASANTVILLE — Colfax-Mingo’s football team dropped to 2-3 overall and opened Class 1A District 7 play with a 57-28 road loss to Pleasantville on Friday night.
The Tigerhawks trailed 28-21 in the third quarter, but the Trojans (4-1, 1-0) dominated the final frame to pull away.
Colfax-Mingo got within 36-28 early in the fourth quarter, but Pleasantville outscored the Tigerhawks 21-7 in the fourth to close out the home win.
Senior Brady Berkey threw for 160 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 33 yards. Senior Trystin Ross hauled in eight of Berkey’s 14 completions for 78 yards and a 6-yard TD. He also led the defense with 11 tackles.
Junior Jayden Horrach’s string of 100-yard rushing games was snapped, but Horrach finished with 93 yards on 22 carries. He had two rushing TDs, including a 22-yarder.
Junior Zach Steenhoek finished with two catches for 57 yards. He caught a 24-yard TD pass from Berkey. Steenhoek also had four tackles on defense. Senior Andrew Meinhart hauled in a pair of catches for 23 yards.
Senior Jesse Allen finished with eight tackles, while sophomore Tanner Gorman had 4.5 tackles and junior Andres Villegas and senior Tim Carroll both collectedfour tackles. Carroll also recovered a fumble.
Horrach gave Colfax-Mingo a 7-0 lead in the first quarter and scored again in the third quarter to cut Pleasantville’s lead to 28-21 with 3:04 on the clock.
Pleasantville rushed for 456 yards in the win. Cale Anthony tallied 266 yards on 27 carries and scored four rushing touchdowns. Isaac Mann also gained 116 rushing yards and scored four TDs.
Colfax-Mingo hosts Interstate 35 (2-3, 0-1) at 7 p.m. on Friday in Colfax.
