Wayne Russell Worth, 86, of Monroe, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019, at his home. A funeral service took place Monday, Sept. 16 at the Monroe United Methodist Church with burial following at Silent City Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Monroe United Methodist Church or the Monroe Fire and Rescue. Condolences may be left for the family at coburnfuneralhomes.com.

The son of Samuel Boyd and Stella (Schalk) Worth, Wayne was born Sept. 25, 1932, on the family farm south of Monroe. Wayne graduated from Monroe High School in 1951 and attended Iowa State University. Wayne served in the United States Army. On Feb. 14, 1965, he was united in marriage to Donna Akkerman at the Titonka United Methodist Church in Titonka. Wayne farmed in the area his entire life. He was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church, the Monroe American Legion Post #363, Newton Masonic Lodge #59 and he served as a trustee of Fairview Township. Wayne also served on the board of trustees and administrative council at the church. Wayne was proud that the farm had been in his family’s name for more than 160 years. He also loved to attend his grandchildren’s activities.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Donna; two children, Mary Sue (Doug) Duinink and Dennis (Kim) Worth; six grandchildren, Reed Worth, Caleb Duinink, Carson Duinink, Jennifer (Aaron) Trausch, Lee Murra and Elizabeth (Shaun) Glazier; seven great-grandchildren, Nathen, Jarron, Hayden, Annabelle, Tegan, Meric and Matix; a sister, Frances Prueitt; and a brother, Robert Worth. Preceding Wayne in death were his parents.
