Cardinal football scrimmage canceled

Newton High’s Under Armour Fall Kick Off and Cardinal football Gatorade scrimmage slated for Friday at H.A. Lynn Stadium has been canceled. Continued installation of the new football field turf at the stadium prevents scheduled event.

Construction on the field should be completed by next week, according to Newton High athletic director Ryan Rump. Newton will be able to host all of its 2019 home games.

Rump said the plan is to introduce all of the NHS athletic teams before the first home varsity football game on Sept. 13. Newton hosts Ottumwa.

The Cardinal football team opens the season on Sept. 30 against Prairie City-Monroe at Central College in Pella.
