Fire damages Newton Days Inn motel

A fire caused structural damage to the Newton Days Inn motel Monday night.

KCOB reported the Newton Fire Department was called to the motel, located northwest of exit 164 and west of Perkin’s at around 9:30 p.m. Fire crews were on the scene for five hours containing the blaze.

The hotel was evacuated and no injuries were reported. Damage seems to be contained to the west end of the motel, but other areas have sustained smoke and water damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
