MARENGO — Denali Conover dealt a no-hitter from the circle as Class 1A No. 12 Lynnville-Sully softball Hawks shut out host Iowa Valley on Friday night. The Hawks won 13-0 in four innings in South Iowa Cedar League play.
Lynnville-Sully’s baseball Hawks were up 6-4 after four innings but lost to Iowa Valley 9-6 Friday in SICL action. The Hawk baseball team is still looking for its first conference win with an 0-7 mark.
Braden Alberts and Blaize Kuhlmann pitched for the L-S baseball team at Iowa Valley. They combined to allow eight hits and issued seven walks. Kuhlmann had four strikeouts and Alberts had one strikeout.
Evan Squires and Kinnick McFarland each had a double for the Hawks. A single apiece came from Bray Noun Harder, Payton Van Wyk and Skyler Sanders.
The Hawk softball team is 8-0 in SICL play and Friday’s win was its fourth in a row. Conover struck out seven in the game.
Caitlin Alberts, Conover and Janelle Rozendaal each had a a single and a double. Korinne Jansen had two singles and two of the team’s 14 stolen bases. Laci Keen and Megan Van Zante each had a base hit.
The Lynnville-Sully teams are at home Monday against Tri-County in SICL action. Varsity games begin at 6 p.m. at Sully.
On Saturday, the Hawk softball team hosted a three-team tournament while the Hawk baseball team played in a three-team tournament hosted by Des Moines Christian in Urbandale.

Softball
Lynnville-Sully beat Des Moines Christian 4-1. Conover was the winning pitcher, allowing five hits, walking three and striking out three.
Keen and Carson Fisk had a single and a double apiece and Alberts had two singles. Hitting a single each were Mallory Loftus, Shiloh Cunningham and Jansen.
Class 3A ninth-ranked Albia had a five-run fifth inning to beat Lynnville-Sully 8-1. Albia beat DMC 8-2.
The Hawks are 12-4 with losses to three ranked 3A teams and one 4A team.
Alberts took the pitching loss for the Hawks, going four innings and allowing four runs on four hits and one walk. Conover worked one inning, giving up three runs on three hits and one walk. She had one strikeout.
Jansen had a single and a triple for Lynnville-Sully. Keen singled. Kaleah Ehresman scored the Hawks’ run.
Baseball
The Hawks had a tough go of it on Saturday, losing 18-5 in five innings to Dallas Center-Grimes and 24-1 in four innings to Des Moines Christian. DCG defeated DMC 5-4.
Lynnville-Sully had four hits led by Squires’ two singles. Conner Maston and Nick Rea each had a double while Noun Harder and Van Wyk had a single apiece.
McFarland, Squires, Ryan Annee and Van Wyk pitched against DCG.
Van Wyk had the lone hit for the Hawks against Des Moines Christian. Noun Harder, Van Wyk and Rea pitched in the game.
Lynnville-Sully is 2-10 overall.
