Burton “Burt” Eugene Lothe, 89, of Newton, died Friday, May 31, 2019, at his home in Park Centre in Newton.

Burt’s memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 6 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. The family requests those attending the service wear casual attire.

The family will greet friends with a lunch at the funeral home immediately following the memorial service.

A private family burial will be held at a later date at the Newton Union Cemetery.

Memorials to the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union 33 Education Fund or to the Park Centre Good Samaritan Fund may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. If you are mailing a memorial, please add Attn: Lothe Family on the envelope.

Burt’s wife, Liz had once quipped “these are the ones left to redeem the family name,” his sons, Scott (Colette) Lothe of Marshalltown and Eric (Mary) Lothe of Urbandale; grandchildren, Christopher Lothe, Andy Lothe, Daniel Lothe, Allison (Stephen) Matychuk, Joseph (Alex) Lothe, Anna Lothe and Phillip Lothe; and his brother, Alan Lothe of Newton.

Burt was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elizabeth “Liz” in 2013; and his two brothers, Darrell and Duane.
